How to pick a photography package

How to pick a photography package that is right for you!

So you know you need some photos but don’t know what the heck ya need or what package is right for you?

It can be hard to initially think up a branding session plan or orchestrate a personal headshot session without a bit of guidance but I’m here to help! My fine art background typically helps me immensely in coming up with creative ideas that make sense for individuals/companies but I do work best if I know a few specifics first.

*Short on time to read this article? This hourly package will cover you!*

Here’s a step-by-step guide!

business branding photography and content creation in Austin Texas

Step 1 – Identify Goals

    • Do you have some specific, concrete needs? Here are some common requests.
  • A clean, nice, classic headshot for LinkedIn or a company website.
  • Individual headshots for a team of people but also a few group shots.
  • A headshot for a team member(s) that is geographically in a different area but needs to match previous company headshots.
  • A polished mix of website and social media content images for entrepreneurs and business owners. Aka, business branding.
  • A wide variety of shots to be used for continuous content on social media.
  • A product or office you’d like to showcase along with photographs of yourself or your team. An example would be a child therapist in a colorful kid-friendly office or a doctor in a posh med spa environment.
  • A big corporate event that you’d like photographed with or without a dedicated headshot area.

Here’s an example of a larger branding session that took place at my client’s home!

Step 2 – What are secondary needs or goals?

    • Are you planning on targeting investors from all walks of life and want a variety of looks for specific presentations? Make yourself appealing to certain types of high-profile investors but also have marketability to younger generations. Get ya someone who can create both looks for you!
    • Do you have an upcoming publication or speaking gig? Need something for marketing that?
    • What ideas do you have for scaling your business in the future?
    • Are there any other random ideas that you’d love a photographer to help with?
    • *Maybe* you might need a few casual images for online dating websites. It is VERY common for us to tack on a few images for this.
    • Did you have a bit of plastic surgery or weight loss and want a cute photo of you in an area that doesn’t make sense for your professional branding? Or maybe you moved cross country or went through a separation? A good photography session can be very cathartic. : )
    • Is your mom nagging you for a new photo of you for her office?

Step 3 – What parameters exist for you?

    • Do you need a black, white, or grey background to match a previous headshot?
    • Specifically sized images (like a long website banner or photos cropped in a circle/square).
    • Something for print in a magazine or a brochure?
    • Do you need to be photographed in your office or a specific location? Lawyers making a cameo in a courthouse, posing with your hot sauce creations in a kitchen, etc.
    • What makes sense for your personal or professional brand?

Here’s an example of a corporate event with a dedicated headshot area used as well!

Step 4 – How much time do you want to devote to this project?

    • Do you just want professional headshots that don’t take up too much time? I can come set up in your local office and knock those out lickety-split. If you are here for a conference or event, I can also do these on location for corporate events and conferences.
    • Do you want a deep dive into branding and flesh out some ideas?
    • Do you want a bit more of a branding session for yourself but also have a team of peeps that also need a standard headshot?

Step 5 – Budget

    • Budget is of course an important consideration so here are a few other things to consider.
    • Will I need hair/makeup for this? I think it makes a big difference personally. I’d budget about $200 if so and I’m happy to book it for you with my favorites in town.
    • What locations will we use? Got an office or home you’d like to be photographed in? No sweat! I’ll come to you! The same goes for most outdoor areas in Austin. I do not photograph clients inside bars/restaurants or shops without specific approval beforehand so please know that may not be an option. I do rent an absolute TON of spaces by the hour however and that can be around $100-$400 additional dollars.
    • New clothes if needed.

Here’s an example of renting a space for a photography session!

Step 6 – Timing

    • What’s your timeline for this project? Asap? In the next year?
    • If you have a lot of people involved, you’ll need more time. It is what it is baby.
    • While my online booking has specific times on it, please know we can be flexible on start times.
    • When considering an outdoor location, I’d highly suggest early morning for heat and crowds.
    • Inside headshots can be done at any time of day.

After identifying needs and timing here are a bit of suggestions on packages!

If you need headshots on location for over 50 people or want all day of your conference/event covered, I’d suggest my full-day package!

Got a decent amount of peeps that need headshots (maybe 25ish) or a shorter event – I’d suggest my half-day package.

Do you tailor-made business branding for yourself and/or your team? Got a mix of needs?  I’d recommend one of my branding packages!

The biggest difference in cost is simply time involved and if you aren’t sure how much time you’ll need, book the smaller package and we can discuss it over the phone or email.

Hope this helps you decide! Thanks for reading!
